Tyrone M. Ruffin, was born and raised in
Hertford County. A graduate of Hertford
County High School (2005), in 2019 he
went on to graduate from Pitt Community
College with an Associates in Applied
Science Criminal Justice Technology.
In 2007, Tyrone
completed the Basic Law Enforcement
Program at Halifax Community College.
Tyrone served the majority of his law
enforcement career in Hertford County
and in December 2020 Tyrone started his
career at the Bertie County Sheriff's
Office.
Through Tyrone's
career, he has received many
acknowledgments, certificates, and
special recognitions. On November 8th,
2022, Tyrone was Elected as the Sheriff
of Bertie County. January 2023, Tyrone
was appointed and sworn in to serve on
the Juvenile Justice Crime Committee
under Governor Roy Cooper’s
Administration. Tyrone is a recipient of
the Advance Law Enforcement Certificate
which is the highest honor rewarded to a
Law Enforcement Officer in North
Carolina. Tyrone is also a recipient of
the Intermediate Law Enforcement
Certificate.
Tyrone is a member of
the Martin Community College Criminal
Advisory Committee, member of the Bertie
County Superintendent's Community
Advisory Board, Bertie County Branch of
National Association for the Advancement
of Colored People (NAACP). Tyrone also
serve as Chaplain for the North Carolina
Sheriff’s Association.
