Geography
Bertie County covers 699.27 sq. miles of land (41.95 sq. mi. of water) in tranquil Eastern North Carolina. The county is 75 miles from the Outer Banks, 100 miles east of Raleigh, North Carolina's State Capital and 90 miles southwest of Norfolk, Virginia.

Topography
Bertie County is located in the Coastal Plains and features low, flat plains with slight ridges and shallow stream valleys. Elevation ranges from sea level at the eastern boundary to 97 feet above sea level in Roxobel. The area is drained by the Cashie, Chowan and Roanoke Rivers and features fertile and productive soils.

Climate
Bertie County has a relatively mild climate. The avergae temperature for January is 45 degrees Fahrenheit, while the average temperature for July is 79 degree Fahrenheit.
